Admin History | The Council was established as a result of local government reorganisation in 1974 (records earlier than this reflect the existence of a shadow authority set up to prepare for the handover). It consisted of an amalgamation of the former Maidenhead and Windsor ancient Borough Councils, and Cookham and Windsor Rural District Councils, all in Berkshire, with the former Eton Urban District Council and part of Eton Rural District Council, transferred from Buckinghamshire.
In 1998 the Council became a Unitary Authority, following the abolition of Berkshire County Council. |
