TitleCorrespondence and papers relating to attempts to save Charles Church, Plymouth, Devon.
Description(Charles Church suffered great damage as a result of enemy bombing in March 1941. In 1950 the local council made the decision to demolish the building which led to an appeal by the Old Plymouth Society and other bodies. Willcocks led a 'Save the Ruins' appeal for the Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings in 1951. As a result it was decided to keep Charles Church as a memorial and partial restoration work was undertaken in 1952. The file includes correspondence, mostly with the Chairman of the Old Plymouth Society, G W Copeland, 1948-1954; a copy of The Building News, 7 November 1902, which includes a letter about Charles Church; 'Charles Church, Plymouth' by G W Copeland, reprinted by the Devonshire Association, 1949; and newspaper cuttings, 1950-1951.)
