Description | The 1st/4th Royal Berkshire Regiment was in action on the Western Front in the early years of the First World War. It was sent to Italy in November 1917. The battalion was stationed firstly just north of Padua, but in April 1918 it advanced north to the Asiago plateau, where it not only repulsed the Austrian offensive of mid-June 1918, but played an important role in the advance into the town of Asiago itself in late August. The battalion remained in north east Italy until the Armistice of November 1918.
