Admin HistoryThe Hungerford circuit was formed in 1937 by the amalgamation of the Bath Road (former Wesleyan) and Bridge Street (former Primitive Methodist) sections (D/MC 10 and D/MC 11). Initially, eight societies from the former and twelve from the latter joined forces, but with duplication of premises being eliminated in several villages and with closures following in others too, the number of chapels was reduced by the late 1960s to eight. Declining membership led to amalgamation with Newbury circuit (D/MC 9) in 1971, to form Newbury and Hungerford circuit (D/MC 13). With closures following in others too, the number of chapels was reduced by the late 1960s to eight. Declining membership led to amalgamation with Newbury circuit (D/MC 9) in 1971, to form Newbury and Hungerford circuit (D/MC 13).

Early preaching plans and some accounts are lacking, but Quarterly Meeting and local preachers' meeting minutes have been preserved.

Like its Wesleyan predecessor, for practical purposes the circuit was divided into Hungerford and Lambourn Valley or Aldbourne sections.
