Admin HistoryThe circuit's origins date back to June 1937 when the former Wesleyan Methodists and Primitive Methodists agreed to unite and pool resources. Local preachers had met together from September 1934; Quarterly Meetings were combined from June 1935 and minuted in the same volume, but received separate reports and statistics from the two district sections, Northbrook Street and Bartholomew Street, for a further two years. Likewise, the preaching plans remained as two sections in one publication until September 1937.

The number of chapels in the united circuit declined from 33 to 19, before amalgamation took place with Hungerford circuit in 1971 (thereafter see D/MC13).

Although there are gaps among the circuit plans and directories, minutes, schedules and baptism registers are virtually complete throughout the circuit's existence.
