Admin History | John Wesley preached 19 times in Newbury between 1740 and 1795. Initially the Methodists met in an existing chapel situated in a back alley off Cheap Street, near the canal. By c.1755 they had moved to buildings in Northbrook Street. A chapel was registered for worship in 1804.
In 1837 a new church was built nearby, also in Northbrook Street. It was twice registered for worship, in 1838 and 1840.
