Admin History | John Wesley preached in Reading on a number of occasions, and a small Wesleyan society was meeting in London Street by 1739, but had failed by 1804. In 1811 a new society was formed, initially meeting in London Street, and then in a former schoolroom in Queens Road nicknamed the Inkpot Chapel. In 1816-1817 a chapel was built in Church Street.
Wesley Methodist Church in Queen's Road was built in 1872-3 and opened in 1873. In 1940 it absorbed the London Street former Primitive Methodist Society (D/MS 59). |
