Admin History | Sutton Courtenay Congregational Church was a daughter-church of Abingdon Congregational Church (see D/N 1). A small community of "Separatists" was noted there in 1669. The cause was re-established from Abingdon in 1787, and a meeting house built in 1793. The church later became merged in Abingdon Congregational Church.
In 1897 a separate church was again formed, with separate membership and officers. The pastorate was undertaken by successive theological students at Mansfield College, Oxford. In c.1907, the church was demolished, and a new church erected on the site. |
