Admin History | Tyndale Baptist Church originated as The "Hut" Free Church Mission, meeting in a disused watchman's hut in Beech Road in 1924. Initially the meetings acted as a Sunday School for children living on the Shinfield council estate, although adults were also invited to attend. After several changes of site, a Sunday School building was acquired in Grosvenor [later Cressingham] Road in 1925. Adults met for worship in the attached church hall. Between 1927 and 1933, the church was served by a series of student pastors; in 1933 the first full time salaried minister was appointed. Tyndale was a daughter-church of King's Road Baptist Church until 1953, when it became autonomous. In 1957-8 a church building was erected in memory of the Revd R G Fairbairn, the minister of King's Road who had inspired the original church plant.
In 1982 Tyndale produced a daughter-church of its own, at Whitley Wood. |
