Admin History | The Congregational cause in Woolhampton began in the early 19th century with services held by John Morton of Bucklebury. A chapel was built by village shoemaker Hannah Goody, and put in trust in 1811.
In 1835, Mr G W E Brown of Newbury started a school in Woolhampton, and took charge of services. The church was formed in 1842, and in the same year Mr Brown was ordained as its pastor.
In 1969 decreasing membership led to the uniting of the church with Thatcham Congregational Church (D/N 37), with which it was already closely associated in the Thatcham Group of Congregational Churches. |
