Description | [Until 1971 the Newbury Deanery Association for Moral Welfare was based in Newbury, with an office in the Congregational Church and a dedicated part-time social worker who dealt mainly with adoption. In 1971 all the case work was centralised across the diocese with a base in Reading. The Association, which was renamed Newbury Deanery Association for Social Work in 1972, continued to meet, mainly to raise money for social work (including supporting single parent families and facilitating adoption, homelessness, and unemployment). It was wound up in 1984.] |
