Description | Street Savings Groups were voluntary bodies organised on a geographical basis to encourage savings in their areas. Most individual streets in Reading had a group at some point, though these were often ephemeral, and district groupings (e.g. East Reading, South Reading, Emmer Green) met regularly, reporting to the Street Groups sub-committee. In 1960 the name was changed to the Home Savings Committee.
In 1961 the organisation was changed, with a new home savings committee in overall charge, and sub-committees for north, south, east and west Reading. |
