TitleRecords of 'Boxing Day 1992 riot'
DescriptionOn 26 December 1992 the young offenders from A wing at HMRC Reading caused a disturbance during evening association which led to a riot which lasted from approximately 7.15pm until 10.30pm and caused over £120,000 worth of damage, mainly in the activity centre and computer room. Three prison officers suffered injuries as a result of the initial disturbance but no prisoners were injured. 23 prisoners were subsequently charged with 'Prison Mutiny' (the first prisoners to be charged with this offence) and trials in May and December 1993 led to several further sentences. The papers in this series relate both to the riot and arrangements for the trials. All papers which mention the young offenders by name are subject to a closure period of 100 years.
