Admin HistoryAlso known as Alderman Field's collection.
In 1791 Jonathan Tanner purchased a brewery in Castle Street, Reading, from John Deane. In 1797 he took Messrs Thomas Sowdon and Thomas Dreweatt into partnership. This partnership was dissolved in 1802 when Sowdon left. The continuing partnership of Tanner and Dreweatt was dissolved in 1806. Tanner appears to have continued in the business, and in 1827 purchased the outstanding interest in the property from the heirs of Dreweatt (who died in 1824) in 1827. He then went into partnership with Thomas Rickford and Charles Curry Bickham, leaving the business on being declared personally bankrupt in 1835. Messrs Rickford & Bickham continued in business until at least 1841.
