Catalogue ReferenceR/D9/1/1-14
TitleDeeds of a messuage (later two, then six , and finally four messuages) on the east side of the Old Ward [later St Mary's Butts), Reading.
Description(Includes marriage settlements of David Webb of Reading, clothier, and Patience Reve, daughter of Gabriel Reve of Reading, gentleman, and sister of Gabriel Reve the younger, citizen and grocer of London, 1652; and of Chapple Warden of Reading, gentleman, and Martha Peircy of Reading, widow, daughter and heir of Richard Sweet late of Reading, dyer, 1740. The messuages in the Old Ward appear to have been replaced by new ones built in the late 1730s by Martha Peircy, and then sub-divided into six tenements. Only four messuages in the Old Ward are conveyed in 1756. From 1695 the property conveyed also includes a second messuage in the Old Ward described as an 'inner tenement'; and two messuages (formerly used as one) at a place called Caveys Corner on the north side of Broad Street (described in 1685 as 'High Street otherwise Broad Street), Reading.)
