Description[Under the Canal Boats Act, 1877 (40 & 41 Vict., cap. 60) Reading Urban Sanitary Authority was defined as the Registration Authority for canal boats within its jurisdiction. The Reading Urban Sanitary Authority became part of Reading Corporation in 1894. Under the 1877 Act, every canal boat with an accommodation cabin had to be registered with and regularly inspected by an authority whose district included the canal on which the boat was intended to ply. The Act was replaced by the Public Health Act in 1936.]
