Admin HistoryThe school was founded in 1466, and was originally run by the priest attached to Henry Wormestall's Charity. At the Reformation, it was absorbed into St Bartholomew's Hospital Charity. By the end of the 16th century this charity was managed by Newbury Corporation. The school ceased to exist in 1814 when the master died, having had no pupils since 1800.

In 1841 a new Scheme was made to manage the educational part of the charity, and a new school and master's house were built in 1848 in the Litten, Newbury. The first pupils were admitted in 1849. In 1883 the charity merged with Kendrick's Charity to form St Bartholomew's Hospital and Grammar School Foundation. A new school building was erected in Enborne Road, Newbury, in 1884.

In 1949 the school became a Voluntary Aided grammar school for boys, including some boarders. It closed in 1975, and pupils transferred to the new St Bartholomew's School (SCH13), a comprehensive formed by the merger of this and Newbury County Girls' School (SCH12).
