TitleRecords of Kennington Manor and Farm
DescriptionThis collection relates to the ownership of Kennington manor or reputed manor, and to the Mundy family, tenants of Kennington Farm (later Kennington Manor Farm).

In the nineteenth century the estate belonged to the Bowyer family of Radley; see D/EB 1089/BO for additional records, including a valuation of the estate, 1860 (D/EB 1089/BO/E1).

For later deeds of Kennington Manor Farm, with plans, 1913 and 1918, see D/EX 344/4/1-3.

The most interesting part of the collection comprises the papers of Stephen Mundy, tenant of the farm from 1823 to 1860, namely his very detailed farming accounts and his song book, a personal collection of folk and popular songs and dance tunes. Stephen Mundy was born in Culham, Oxfordshire, on 27 May 1789. He married Maria Stacey of Shippon at St Helen's Church, Abingdon, on 10 July 1828. Their children were Maria (b. 23 November 1830, baptised at Kennington 25 December), Paul (b. 27 June 1832, baptised at Radley 15 July), Raymond (b. 10 November 1834, baptised at Radley 16 November), Mark (b. 6 August 1837, baptised at Radley 3 September), Ann Sophia (b. 4 April 1836, baptised at Radley 1 May), and Job (b. 21 March 1840, baptised at Radley 19 April). Stephen died on 2 December 1862, and was succeeded as tenant of Kennington Farm by his youngest son Job.
