Admin HistoryJacques Grumbar was a pupil at Courtenay Lodge School from May 1924 to July 1928. During his study he was a School Prefect, Captain of the Rugby Fifteen, Captain of the Boat Club, and also took part in boxing. He had moved to the school from France and had to learn English as a pupil.

Courtenay Lodge School, located in Sutton Courtenay, was a private boys' school founded in 1905 by Captain Thomas Sidney [Sydney] Waterlow-Fox and his wife Jessie Waterlow-Fox. In 1932, T S Waterlow-Fox bought Maiden Erlegh House in Earley and immediately transferred the school to the new premises, renaming the school Maiden Erlegh School for Boys. The school closed in 1945 when T S Waterlow-Fox retired and sold Maiden Erlegh House to the Church Army.
